‘General elections’ refer to elections in which the right to vote is universal. This means that all people who meet the statutory requirements are entitled to vote instead of the right to vote being restricted to cover only some specific group of people. If you have the right to vote, a polling card will be sent to you before the elections by post or electronically via Suomi.fi service.
The following general elections are conducted in Finland:
- parliamentary elections every four years,
- county or municipal elections every four years,
- election of the President of the Republic (presidential election) every six years, and
- elections to the European Parliament every five years.
