In Lahti, we are taking environmental and climate action on climate mitigation every day together with institutions of higher education, businesses and residents. As a pioneer, Lahti is involved in several climate networks and projects. In addition, we are working proactively to adapt to the inevitable consequences of climate change.
Adapting to climate change
The climate of Lahti has warmed up by around 2 °C since the beginning of the 1960s. Precipitation is increasing and extreme weather events are becoming increasingly probable. In addition to climate mitigation, adaptation measures are needed in both the City’s own units and the businesses and housing associations.
Carbon sinks and offsetting
To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2025, a part of emissions is compensated and locked up in carbon sinks.
Climate partnership
With climate partnership, the City invites businesses and communities to join in the climate work! The City’s own climate measures can only affect a portion of the city area emissions, and that is why everyone needs to take action.
