Sopenkorpi
The planning of the future Sopenkorpi is in progress. The area may become a rustic combination of workshop atmosphere, transformed industrial buildings and unique living – or something completely different.

The Sopenkorpi industrial area was born in 1912 when the City of Lahti bought the fields cleared in thick spruce woods. For a hundred years, dozens of businesses have operated in the area, and the area has constantly changed. Sopenkorpi is surrounded by residential areas. The close proximity of the city centre brings up hopes that Sopenkorpi would also have more housing in the future.
Sopenkorpi has many assets as a place to live, including close proximity to the city centre, great connections as well as a colourful history and old buildings in the area. The development of Sopenkorpi in cooperation with the area’s landowners has begun.

Sopenkorpi’s Kesanto is a venue and a community that invigorates the Sopenkorpi area with temporary methods. Kesanto is within walking distance from Lahti city centre, and a variety of musical events and celebrations are organised there. In Kesanto, there is also an opportunity for urban farming. There is space for city culture in all its forms along the old industrial track. The community also actively invites different actors to join in developing the area.
