The City of Lahti has a Main Library, eight branch libraries and two mobile libraries.
The library provides information, meeting places and enjoyable experiences. We support life-long learning, mental growth and well-being and promote reading, education and the skills needed in an information society.
The libraries have material for children, youth and adults. The acquisition of new material is essential to us. So, we offer our customers an abundance of new books to read. But also treasures from our storage area are available. The library’s printed collection is enhanced by a huge amount of material on the web.
The libraries are spaces that are open to everyone
You can study, work, hold meetings and get together with friends, spend your time pleasantly and take part in various events. Self-service hours make it possible to visit a library outside normal service hours. Seven of the branch libraries have self-service hours on weekdays, from 6:00 to 22:00.
The library’s online services are available at any time, in any place. The lastu.finna.fi Web Library can be used to reserve material on loan but also items on the shelves. These materials are then delivered to the library you have selected. The Web Library also allows customers to pay library fees online. A versatile collection of e-books, e-magazines and newspapers, films and music can be found online. All this is available at lastu.finna.fi.
You can request a library card at any Lastu library. All the public libraries in Päijät-Häme (the Lahti region) are members of the Lastu libraries group. The same Lastu library card is valid at any of these libraries.
The libraries organize a great many events, group activities, guidance and instruction. The groups are open to anyone and you may participate in all the group sessions or be present just once.
Welcome and have a good time in the library!
