Last year, 7.94 million trips were made on Lahti Region Public Transport (LSL) buses, setting a new record for passenger numbers. This marks a 2.2% increase from 2023, which was already a record year compared to previous years. Dividing the total number of trips evenly among approximately 190,000 residents in the LSL route area averages 42 trips per person per year.
Here are the seven most popular bus lines based on boardings in November 2024:
- 1S (Liipola-Soltti) (63,186 boardings)
- 1K (Liipola-Karjusaari) (63,134 boardings)
- 4H (Hiekkanummi-Tiilijärvi) (63,077 boardings)
- 4V (Viuha-Tiilikangas) (62,663 boardings)
- 2 (Patomäki-Laune-Mukkula) (60,345 boardings)
- 5 (Metsäkangas-Sopenkorpi-Kiveriö-Hörölä) (56,717 boardings)
- 7 (Karisto-Metsäpietilä) (47,950 boardings)
In November 2024, LSL passengers took approximately 735,000 trips, 11% more than the average monthly passenger number. Nearly 2,000 individual trips recorded 50 or more boardings, and on the most popular individual trips, boardings can be well over a hundred or even 150. Some people only travel a few stops. Buses can be crowded during peak times, particularly morning and afternoon rush hours.
In November 2024, 34,519 trips were made. On average, there are 21.3 boardings per trip. When transfers from one trip to another are added (0.75 transfers/trip), one bus ride serves the daily travel needs of an average of 22 people.
In the Lahti region, only 3.5% of passengers transfer buses using the same ticket, whereas in the capital region, transferring from one line to another is much more common.
LSL continuously monitors passenger numbers and plans trips to optimize quieter routes and increase capacity on the most popular lines. This year, Päijät-Häme is celebrating the theme year of sustainable mobility. Test yourself, and see how the rides make your everyday life easier!
