Woodio’s innovation, a 100% waterproof wood composite, provides an eco-friendly bathroom and interior decor alternative. After securing over 16 million euros in venture capital last summer, the company is poised to scale its operations and expand internationally. The new Lahti factory will significantly enhance production capacity to meet growing demand.
Founded in Helsinki in 2015, Woodio introduced its first products in 2019. Transitioning from a pilot factory setup, the new Lahti facility represents a significant upgrade in production capabilities. City officials, including Mayor Niko Kyynäräinen, are enthusiastic about Woodio’s move, highlighting Lahti’s robust business and innovation networks.
The factory is expected to boost local employment, creating approximately 100 jobs by 2030. Located in the Jokimaa Syväoja industrial area, the facility’s construction will integrate advanced ecological and circular economy technologies. Spatium Toimitilat Oy, responsible for the factory’s construction, aims to achieve a Very Good rating on the BREEAM environmental assessment scale.
Woodio’s environmentally friendly production processes result in significantly lower CO2 emissions than traditional ceramic bathroom furnishings. This aligns with Lahti’s environmental goals, making it an ideal location for Woodio’s expansion.
With support from local development agencies and educational institutions, Woodio’s new factory in Lahti is poised to become a model for sustainable industrial growth.
