Saara Vauramo, former Environmental Director of the City of Lahti, played a critical role in the success of Lahti’s year as the European Green Capital in 2021 both as a local government official and as Programme Director of the Sustainable Lahti Foundation.
Through several years of determined work promoting environmental issues, Vauramo has raised Lahti’s profile as a pioneering green city and earned recognition both nationally and internationally. She is also a well-liked and respected colleague and team member.
Vauramo’s contribution has significantly accelerated the development of sustainable and innovative solutions that are helping Lahti to meet its targets in respect of carbon neutrality, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable development, new mobility and the circular economy.
After captaining Lahti through its momentous year as the European Green Capital, Vauramo is now pursuing a career as a Leading Specialist in Nature Positive Services at Ramboll, a global engineering, architecture and consultancy company.
The golden Lahti Medal is an award given in recognition of meritorious service to the City of Lahti. The medal ceremony traditionally coincides with Lahti’s official birthday on 1 November.
