Participate in the Kisapuisto planning project

An open public meeting will be held to present the Kisapuisto sports park planning project A-2926, which aims to update the area’s detailed plan from 1966 to meet today’s needs. The meeting will be held in the inner courtyard of the city hall on Thursday, March 27th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Accessible entry to the venue is via the glass doors on Harjukatu street, Harjukatu 31.

The meeting will be held in Finnish, but you are very welcome to ask questions also in English. We are also creating a survey for the residents on omalahti.fi website. You can take part to that survey also in English.

The meeting can also be attended remotely via MS Teams. You can send pre-meeting questions to the planners by March 25th. Links to Teams and pre-meeting questions can be found at the bottom of this page.

What questions will the planning project solve?

Kisapuisto is located between the city center and the harbour. It is one of our favourite locations for sport and outdoor activities in Lahti. There are various needs related to the future of Kisapuisto. The area should allow conditions for competitive sports, club activities, student groups, and independent outdoor activities throughout the year. The area is a shared urban space for the residents of Lahti, but at the same time, areas must also be designated to meet the demands of professional athletes.

The current Kisapuisto detailed plan from 1966 no longer adequately guides the area’s development. Updating the plan will set the framework for Kisapuisto for the coming decades and may enable something entirely new in the area. The planning project will specifically examine the amount and placement of buildings in the area. The current plan does not allow, for example, private property development or commercial activities.

It is also necessary to consider which existing values should be preserved in the area. For example, the openness and greenery of the area currently create a recognizable identity for the area.

The planning project will also examine access to Kisapuisto, the area’s connectivity to the surrounding environment, and routes within the area.

It is important that the residents of Lahti can participate and influence the plans at the start of the project, as residents possess extensive local knowledge about the area and the needs of various sports. Please come and share your views!
