Signs promoting biodiversity for residents’ yards

The City of Lahti will distribute 100 pieces of yard signs to locals promoting biodiversity. The signs will be handed out at the Lahti market square on Tuesday, June 18th, from 10:30 to 11:30 at the pergola in the middle of the square. The signs were made by local carpenter Markku Tonttila.

The signs are part of the “Without pollinators we cannot survive” campaign. Pollinators are sensitive to environmental changes and serve as indicators of the state of nature. When pollinator populations decline, it is a warning sign for all of us. One of the biggest reasons for the decline in pollinator populations is the loss of their habitats.

– We want to encourage residents of Lahti to make their yards and balconies more pollinator-friendly, says marketing manager Taneli Pasanen.

– On Tuesday, June 18th, we will distribute vouchers at the market square. These vouchers can be exchanged for a sign at the City Hall reception later, Pasanen says.
