Summer Camps Bring Joy to Ukrainian Children from Zaporizhzhia

The Lahti city council has decided to support summer camps planned for the children of its Ukrainian sister city, Zaporizhzhia, in 2025. The iniative aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, who cannot enjoy regular camp activities in their homeland due to the conflict.

The City of Lahti supports organizing summer camps for the children of its Ukrainian sister city, Zaporizhzhia, who are affected by the ongoing war. The initiative, approved by the Lahti city council on March 31, 2025, aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment for Zaporizhzhia’s children, aged 10 to 16, who cannot enjoy regular camp activities in their homeland due to the conflict.

With the collaboration of Päijät-Häme Regional Council and Lahti Parishes, four camps will be held this summer, each lasting seven days. Groups will consist of approximately 20 children and two adults, ensuring personalized attention and care. Lahti has allocated up to €30,000 for its share of the total costs, reflecting its commitment to supporting those in need.

This initiative builds on previous efforts in 2023 and 2024.
