Summer in city centre starts on 25.5.

Come to open the summer season in the city centre on Saturday, 25.5, at 12. See a samba parade and visit shops. Hämeenkatu will be closed to cars during the event.

The opening festivities begin with a samba parade as the Samba Maracana dancers, and Samba Sinestesia drummers bring colours and light to the city centre. The parade dances from the corner of Vesijärvenkatu and Aleksanterinkatu through Rautatienkatu and ends at Hämeenkatu.

The boutiques on Hämeenkatu invite you to pop-up events from 12–15. Tea shop Teeletti is transforming into a pop-up tearoom for the day. At cafe Oskarin Piha, you can enjoy the tunes of Trubaduuri Dimipop from 13-14. And if you purchase a ticket to XXL Mössö Festival, Möysän Musaklubi offers you a free t-shirt.

Street artist Poppamaija from Mimmit Peinttaa art collective paints at the Karen Square on Hämeenkatu. Watch the artist paint a photo wall for the Soundfest Festival. At the square, you can also win tickets to the festival or buy them.

The area between Hämeenkatu, Mariankatu, and Rautatienkatu will be closed to traffic from 11.30 to 15. Parking is also restricted during the event.

Summer Street on Hämeenkatu

The Summer Street experiment aims to bring more colours and a summer feel to Hämeenkatu. There will be more colourful summer flowers on the street, and the air space will be decorated with colourful flags. There will also be space for bicycle parking in Karen Square.

During the summer, street paintings in the area between Rautatienkatu and Mariankatu will guide pedestrians to Summer Street.

Summer Street is a collaboration between the City of Lahti, Lahti City ry and the entrepreneurs on Hämeenkatu.
